COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT SUMMARY FOR

 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR

I.   STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

A.   Certified Reading Teacher/Course

B. Interactive Reading Programs

C.   Incentives for Reading

D.   More books for the AR program

E. Professional Development for staff in Reading/LA

F. Implementation of a “Freaky Math Friday” program that is similar to DEAR Monday with opportunities to practice math

G.   Integrated units within the curriculum that emphasize math in all disciplines

H.   Update of both SATP Computer Labs

 

  II.   CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

A.   An Instructional Coach is needed to facilitate the use of lesson plans, curriculum guides, pacing guides and better instruction in the classrooms

B. Supplemental and ancillary materials are needed to augment the total instructional program (calculators, computers, promethean boards, smartboards, clickers, etc.)

C.   We need additional professional development days with opportunities to observe best practices, differentiated instruction and various strategies being used in the classroom

D.   Upgrade of both SATP Computer Labs to enhance instruction

 

III.   PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

 

A. Professional Development on strategies to promote

retention and reinforcement of skills and objectives

B. Professional Development on Cross-Curricular  

Planning and Integrated Units developed among teachers who share a common planning period

C. Provide non-instructional days on Professional  

Development to support training with regard to “Best Practices” and “Behavior Modification”

 

 

 

 

IV. FAMILY AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

   A. Implement “Parent Contact Campaign” twice a year with the following to get     parents involved:

  1. “I need your help…”

  2. “Good News…”

  3. “Just calling to let you know how much ___has

  Improved”

  B.  Increase visibility of Staff in Neighborhoods

  C.  Invitation to parents to attend after – school activities

  D.  Implementation of Academic Nights—Science/Math Nights

  E.  Host contests with adjacent counties to spark competitiveness in LA,       Mathematics and History

 

V. SCHOOL CONTEXT AND ORGANIZATION

A.   Additional Assistant Principal is needed to fortify the

  Instructional Plan

B. Reduce the students/teacher ratio in some classrooms

C.   Consistency of Inclusion Teachers

D.   Smaller classes during 5th  period or non-subject

  area classes

E. “No cell phones on campus” sign at guard shack

F. Separation of security personnel during campus 

  sweeps to allow for greater utilization/also

  provide them with a means to communicate

G.   Place a SIGN in front of the school to communicate with parents/community regarding events
